25 September 2021

Istanbul Airport, which has become a global transfer center by carrying Turkey to the top in aviation, was awarded the “China Friendly Airport” certificate. Developing special products and services for its Chinese guests, Istanbul Airport became the first terminal building in the world to implement the “Chinese Friendly Airport” project in full.

Successfully representing Turkey in the international arena with its unique architecture, strong infrastructure, superior technology and high-level passenger experience, Istanbul Airport was awarded the “China Friendly Airport” certificate as a result of the practices it implemented to increase the travel experience of its Chinese guests.

Istanbul Airport, which was deemed worthy of the “China Friendly Airport” certificate given by the consulate at a ceremony attended by Cui Wei, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Istanbul, has succeeded in being the first terminal building in the world to implement the project fully in this area. The project was designed to transform the time Chinese guests spend at the airport into a unique experience and to ensure that they have a pleasant time at Istanbul Airport.

Chinese-speaking staff and Chinese signs at Istanbul Airport…

Many “passenger-friendly” applications were also implemented in order to make every moment spent at the airport more comfortable and enjoyable for Chinese guests. While special check-in areas are allocated for passengers coming from China, innovations such as making flights to China from the same flight region, having the flight information screens in Chinese, and translating the ticket processing screens into Chinese have been made.

The presence of Istanbul Airport’s accounts in the ecosystem of social media channels such as Weibo & Wechat used by Chinese passengers, the presence of the Chinese language option in the iGA Istanbul Airport mobile application, the presence of hot water dispensers on the arriving and departing passenger floors, the “Welcome” text on the passenger bridges, and Practices were carried out to make Chinese guests more comfortable at the airport with the special uniforms of Chinese-speaking personnel.

With Chinese announcements to be made in-flights on flights from China and Chinese signs in almost every area at the airport, everything for Chinese guests has been considered.

The aim is to make Chinese guests feel at home…

Making evaluations at the ceremony, İGA Airport Operations Chairman and General Manager Kadri Samsunlu stated that they aim to make Chinese guests feel “at home” with the “passenger-friendly” practices they have implemented at the airport.

Drawing attention to the ancient friendship between Turkey and the People’s Republic of China, Samsunlu emphasized that with Istanbul Airport being a “China Friendly Airport”, they also make a positive contribution to the relations between the two countries.

“We aim to increase the number of Chinese airline companies and passengers arriving at Istanbul Airport”

Speaking at the ceremony, Samsunlu; We are very happy that Istanbul Airport has received the “China Friendly Airport” certificate. China is an important country for us, we have many historical, cultural and economic relations. We are working to revive the historical Silk Road between the two countries by air. In a way that will contribute to our country’s tourism, we want our guests from China to talk about their unique experience at Istanbul Airport and how they feel at home when they return to their country. Our goal is to increase the number of Chinese airline companies that fly to Istanbul Airport in the coming years and to ensure that more passengers come to our country from the People’s Republic of China. We aim to create a network where Chinese passengers traveling to Europe can travel from Istanbul Airport as a transfer point. In this direction, we plan to further increase our ‘passenger-friendly’ practices in the coming period.”
